President of Cyprus Marine Club, Capt. Eberhard Koch, welcomed the members with his opening speech. He updated guests with Cyprus Marine Club membership figures which now reached 67 corporate and 30 individuals.
President announced the forthcoming events for the year with the next one, on 19th March under title “Port State Control”.
Capt. Koch welcomed and thanked our new Silver sponsor EPSCO and event sponsor SCF Management Services for their contribution. Cyprus Marine Club has now 6 sponsors in total, 4 Platinum are Bureau Veritas, UMAR I WSR, ӦL Shipping Group, Tototheo Maritime, and Silver Sponsors Hempel Coatings and mentioned above EPSCO.
At the presentation, Mr. Oleg Kalinin emphasized that Maritime transport is one of the pillars of international trade and it is the environmentally safest mode of transport in terms of emissions per unit of cargo carried over a unit of distance. However, environmental standards for the shipping industry are getting tougher. In 2020 new requirements will come into force which significantly limit the admissible level of sulphur oxides, nitrogen oxides and greenhouse gas emissions in the Baltic, North and Mediterranean seas.
After the presentation all guests were invited to raise any questions and then rich buffet was offered at the Home of Marine Club, Epsilon.
